The BCTLA summer institute this year is a good one! Buffy Hamilton is coming August 26!!!
Buffy Hamilton is best known in the school library community as the Unquiet Librarian. She is an ALA Cutting Edge Library Service Award Winner, and a Library Journal Mover & Shaker award recipient.
The third session looks particularly exciting: Participatory Culture
“What are the qualities that distinguish sites of participatory learning and how might school libraries contextualize their role as co-learners that can collaboratively construct the possibilities of print and digital information, and new literacies, through inquiry-driven work? After a presentation of these principles and and concepts, we’ll engage in small and large group exploration of the possibilities, strategies, and real-world examples across a range of library environments to re-imagine the modern school library.”

Please note: this professional development event is planned by teachers for teachers. There are no union barriers to teachers attending this event. Coming together as colleagues to share and build our practice is a powerful way to counteract the stresses of our current bargaining situation.
